8-0! Bayern Munich dismantle Schalke - Musiala becomes youngest scorer in history
Bayern Munich have not lost a beat from their Champions League winning form. The Rekordmeister opened the Bundesliga season with a record-breaking 8-0 victory against FC Schalke 04.
Without Thiago, who was sold to Liverpool earlier that day, and Alphonso Davies, who was rested for the UEFA Super Cup, Bayern still was unstoppable. The Rekordmeister scored within the first five minutes when Serge Gnabry beat goalkeeper Ralf Fährmann.
It was the first of three goals for Bayern's number 7 that day—Gnabry had taken Franck Ribéry's old number in the offseason. The winger scored in the 47th minute to make it 4-0 and in the 59th minute to make it 5-0. Both goals were assisted by Bayern Munich's summer record signing Leroy Sané, the winger had a fantastic debut for his new club adding a goal to his two assists.
Sané was one of two former Schalke players to score against his former club. In the 19th minute, Leon Goretzka had doubled Bayern's score, making it 2-0 after a wonderful assist by Thomas Müller. Robert Lewandowski then made it 3-0, scoring from the spot after he was brought down by Ozan Kabak. Lewandowski would also produce what will likely be the assist of the season when he set up Thomas Müller for Bayern's sixth goal with a wonderful Rabona.
Up by seven goals after 71 minutes, Flick then rotated his side bringing on several players that played for Bayern's Amateure last season. Among them US defender Chris Richards and English-German midfielder Jamal Musiala. The 17-year-old would then score his first-ever Bundesliga goal, making it 8-0 n the 81st minute becoming Bayern's youngest Bundesliga goalscorer in history (17 years 205 days).
