Bayern Munich have beaten rivals Borussia Dortmund 3-2 at the SIGNAL IDUNA Park. A high pace Klassiker saw two Robert Lewandowski goals chalked off by VAR and the FC Bayern might have also lost midfielder Joshua Kimmich to injury.

BVB head coach had started Jadon Sancho, Marco Reus, and Giovanni Reyna behind striker Erling Haaland. For the first 69 minutes, Reyna and Haaland, in particular, would ask tough questions of Bayern right-back Bouna Sarr. The Black and Yellows were given plenty of space but failed to convert their many chances.

Bayern, on the other hand, were more effective. Lewandowski had a goal narrowly called back by VAR in the 24th minute. Reus then scored in the 45th minute. But that lead lasted just moments as David Alaba hammered home a freekick just before halftime. The second half was just three minutes old when Lewandowski headed home a perfect header to give Bayern the lead.

Dortmund continued to throw away chances. Bayern going the other way was more effective and in the 80th minute, Leroy Sané effectively put the game away scoring with a beautiful shot through Manuel Akanji's legs. Three minutes later Haaland finally scored what was probably the most difficult of all his chances that evening.

That goal, however, was too little too late as Reus had a howler in the 87th minute. Lewandowski, in fact, appeared to have scored a fourth for Bayern but once again VAR intervened. The Polish striker should have probably have had three goals that evening. Bayern will take the win but will be worried about Kimmich. The midfielder had to be helped off in the first half with an apparent knee injury.
