Colorado Rapids sign Zack Steffen - "Zack is an elite-level goalkeeper with a wealth of experience"
Zack Steffen is back in MLS. The USMNT goalkeeper joins the Colorado Rapids from Manchester City. He has signed a contract with the Rapids until the end of 2026, with a club option for 2027.
“Zack is an elite-level goalkeeper with a wealth of experience internationally and in MLS. His exceptional skills, experience, and proven track record make him a valuable addition to our roster,” Pádraig Smith, Colorado Rapids' president, said in a club statement.
Steffen joined Manchester City from Columbus Crew for $7m in July 2019 and was immediately sent on loan to Fortuna Düsseldorf. He immediately became a regular goalkeeper there and played all 17 games in the first half of the season. However, he missed the entire second half of the season due to injury.
After two seasons at ManCity, during which he played 21 games, he moved to Championship club Middlesbrough FC on loan for the 22/23 season. At Middlesbrough, he only missed four games due to a knee injury. He played a total of 45 games for the Boro.
Steffen's European adventure is now over for the time being. The Coatesville, Pennsylvania native is set to become a regular keeper for the Colorado Rapids.
