Dewsbury-Hall, Rutter & Co - The market values of the Championship team of the season

This week the EFL announced the team of the season for the Championship, League One and League Two. This Championship season looks set to go down as one for the ages, with a mouth-watering race between four teams battling it out for the two automatic promotion spots to the Premier League and the title itself. Just two points separate Ipswich, Leicester and Leeds at the top, with Southampton six points behind third placed Leeds, but with two games in hand.

The Championship is a league full of talent - in fact, remarkably, it's the sixth most valuable division (€1.69 billion) in the world, ahead of the likes of Liga Portugal (€1.45b), the Eredivisie (€1.32b), and the Turkish Süper Lig (€1.08b). This is reflected in the league's team of the season, with an XI full of talent. But what are the market values of the 11 players who made it this season? Here at Transfermarkt, we've taken a look. 

The market values of the Championship team of the season 

The total market value of the XI is €156.5m - an impressive total considering it is a second-tier league. Unsurprisingly, the team is dominated by players from the four teams in contention for the automatic promotion places. Leeds boast the heaviest contingent, with three Leeds stars in the XI. Centre-half and Whites captain Ethan Ampadu is included, and the Welshmen has a market value of €15m. Also in the side, from Daniel Farke's team is €18m valued winger Crysencio Summerville, and €18m valued striker Georginio Rutter. Only four players in the entire Championship have a higher market value than that duo - two of them are in the team of the season.

 

Leicester, who are still many people's favourites to win the league despite a dreadful recent drop in form, have two players in the XI. Goalkeeper Mads Hermansen is in the sticks with a market value of €9m -  actually the fourth most valuable keeper in the division. Then in centre-midfield is Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall who has had an excellent season, and with a market value of €30m, is the highest valued player in the team and in the entire division. The one Ipswich representative is Leif Davis at left-back with a market value of €6m, and the one Southampton player is right-back Kyle Walker-Peters, with a market value of €20m.

Completing the line-up are four players outside of the automatic promotion push. Plymouth's Morgan Whittaker takes the right-wing spot with a market value of €6m, as he tries to steer Argyle clear of relegation. With Ampadu at centre-back is €14m valued Hull City centre-half Jacob Greaves. Joining Dewsbury-Hall in centre-midfield is €16m valued Norwich midfielder Gabriel Sara, and then ahead of him, finishing the team is Blackburn Rovers attacking midfield player Sammie Szmodics with the lowest market value in the entire XI of just €4.5m.
