After the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, FIFA have released their updated Men’s World Rankings. Record champions Brazil narrowly maintained their lead, although this year’s winners Argentina follow very close behind. A World Cup final win in 90 minutes would have seen Argentina overtake their arch-rivals as number one in the standings. Runners-ups France moved up into third place.

Unsurprisingly, the biggest winners in the world rankings are Morocco. The first World Cup semi-finalists from Africa made a jump from 22nd to eleventh place. Australia also moved up eleven spots to 27th thanks to making the round of 16 in Qatar.

While quarterfinalists England remained in fifth place, bronze medallists Croatia moved up five spots to seventh place, thus replacing Denmark, who lost eight spots and now sit 18th, in the top ten. FIFA will publish their first world rankings in 2023 on April 6.
