Florian Wirtz 6th youngest to score 5 - Bayer star replaces Meyer

With his fifth Bundesliga goal, Florian Wirtz has written history. Never before a player in the Bundesliga managed to score five goals before his 18th birthday. The Bayer Leverkusen teenager replaced Max Meyer, who previously held the record. The current 1.FC Köln midfielder scored his fifth while playing for FC Schalke 04 in February 2014 when he was 18 years, four months, and 22 days old. 

In the top 5 leagues, there are only five players since 2000, who were younger than Wirtz when they scored their fifth goal. The youngest was Senegalese forward M'Baye Niang. The striker joined Al-Ahli on Sunday from Stade Rennais. Aged 17, he was still playing for SM Caen. Behind Niang rank Manchester United record goalscorer Wayne Rooney, he broke the record playing for Everton, and former CF Montréal star Bojan Krkic, at the time he was one of the brightest talents in the world playing for Barcelona. 

Ahead of Wirtz is also Barça star Ansu Fati. Currently injured, the left-winger scored his first goal for the Catalans aged 16. Fati was two months younger than Wirtz when he scored his fifth goal. PSG star Kylian Mbappé also made the list, the Frenchman was already 18 when he scored his fifth playing for Monaco.

Chelsea's Havertz third-ranked German

Wirtz's predecessor at Bayer Leverkusen, Kai Havertz (Chelsea), ranks 23rd on the list, which makes him the third-highest ranked German. Wirtz is an exception, not just because of his latest record. Among the players born in 2003, there are only two players with a higher market value. "If he keeps working hard and his development continues this way, then Florian will have an exceptional career," Leverkusen director of sport Rudi Völler said.
