Korede Osundina: Feyenoord sign Orange County SC super sub

The USL Championship are sending another top-rated US men’s national team prospect to Europe. Initially reported by Transfermarkt Feyenoord have signed 19-year-old center-forward Korede Osundina from Orange County SC. According to Jeff Carlisle from ESPN, the initial fee will be €200,000. That deal, however, can grow to €1 million thanks to performance-based add-ons. Osundina has been in the Netherlands for over a week to prepare for the move. 

But the young center-forward will not feature for the Eredivisie side this season. Instead, Feyenoord want the striker to collect experience in the Netherlands. For that purpose, Feyenoord have a deal in place with second-division side FC Dordrecht, which also features fellow American John Hilton. Dordrecht will loan Osundina until the end of the season. 

Once official, Osundina becomes the second high-profile talent transferred from Orange County SC to Europe. The club made history in 2022 when they transferred Kobi Henry to Stade Reims in what was then a record transfer for an American player leaving the USL Championship. But the two will hardly be the last. Feyenoord and Orange County SC have a cooperation agreement in place, and Osundina, alongside fellow super talent Bryce Jamison, trained with Feyenoord last winter. Jamison is likely the next talent in the pipeline to leave for Europe.

But what can Feyenoord fans expect from Osundina? “Osundina has emerged as Orange County's go-to super sub this year, and it's thanks to real skill development,” USL expert John Morrisey (@USLTactics) wrote on X (formerly Twitter). “His finishing has improved markedly, and he's learned how to use a strong 6'0" frame to draw fouls and win aerial duels. The sky's the limit here.” 

Indeed, Osundina has seen rapid development since breaking into the first team and has seen his market value climb to €200,000. After a slower start to the season, Osundina has scored all four of his goals in his last 11 games in what has been limited playing time. Often coming off the bench, the 19-year-old power-forward has been off the mark every 116 minutes in USLC action this season.
