Most valuable squad: Chelsea pass Bayern - Liverpool to 1st place thanks to Thiago?
Bayern Munich have the best squad in the world. But in terms of squad value, the treble winners have fallen to sixth place in the worldwide ranking. Chelsea have passed the Rekordmeister after several loan players returned to the team as of Sep. 1.
The departures of Philippe Coutinho (to Barça), Ivan Perišić (Inter), and Álvaro Ordiozola (Real) have led to Bayern losing €90 million in squad value. Star signing Leroy Sané (from ManCity) or the free-agent signings Alexander Nübel (Schalke) and Tanguy Nianzou (PSG) were already part of Bayern's squad.
Man City pass Real - Barça could drop by €170m because of Messi & Co.
With an overall squad value of €1.06 billion, Manchester City have the most valuable team in the world. The Citizens, who are currently trying to sign Lionel Messi, are one of four teams that have broken through the billion euro threshold. Among those teams are also Barcelona, their overall squad value—thanks to Coutinho's return and the signing of Miralem Pjanić—at least on paper, is €1.04 billion. But not only Messi could leave the club, in Luis Suárez, Ivan Rakitić, and Arturo Vidal other players look to be leaving the club. Should those veterans also leave Barça, then the market value would drop below €900 million.
Real Madrid, in the meantime, no longer have the most valuable squad after Óscar Rodríguez (Sevilla) and Achraf Hakimi (Inter) are no longer listed as part of the club's LaLiga team. Like Barça, Real is also expected to drop below the billion euro threshold as James Rodríguez (linked to Everton) and loaned out players Dani Ceballos (Arsenal) and Brahim Díaz (Milan) are expected to leave Los Blancos.

Overview
It is tight among the world's elite. Liverpool (squad value €1.03bn) could jump from third to first once they sign Bayern Munich's Thiago. The two clubs are currently negotiating a deal that could bring the Spaniard to the Premier League. Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge is expecting an offer in the coming days.
Thanks to Havertz - Chelsea could reach the €900m mark
Thiago would be the latest player to head from the Bundesliga to the Premier League. Timo Wener has already joined Chelsea, and his national team colleague Kai Havertz could soon join as well. Including Havertz, the Chelsea squad would be worth €120 million more than Bayern's team—for now. One has to keep in mind, however, that Chelsea's first team includes 37 players—traditionally, the club loans out at least a dozen players.
Borussia Dortmund, in the meantime, are keeping both Jadon Sancho and Erling Haaland for at least one more season. With a quad value of €528 million, the Black and Yellows are 15th in the overall ranking, behind Arsenal and ahead of RB Leipzig.
