Newcastle defender Yedlin joins Galatasaray - Fernandes announced as well

Galatasaray are working on a transfer brace on ahead of Deadline Day. The Süper Lig club is in advanced negotiations to sign Benfica's Gedson Fernandes and Newcastle United's DeAndre Yedlin. Both negotiations have been registered with the stock exchange. That usually indicates that the transfers are almost across the line.

In the case of Fernandes, who is currently on loan at Tottenham Hotspur until Jun.30, the deal is an 18-month loan deal. Spurs signed the Portuguese midfielder in the winter of 2020 for €4.5 million—but Fernandes failed to break into the first squad in London. Benfica own his contract until 2023. 

Fernandes on loan, Yedlin permanently: Double transfer for Galatasaray 

Yedlin, whose contract expires this summer, will join Galatasaray on a permanent deal that will keep him at the club until 2023. The US men's national team right-back joined Newcastle from Tottenham in the summer of 2016 in a deal worth €5.9 million and played 125 games for the Magpies. This season he struggled to break into the squad.

Update Feb. 1: Galatasaray have made the Yedlin signing official. According to Transfermarkt information, the US men's national team right back joins the Süper Lig club on a free transfer.

The Turkish club has also announced the signing of Fernandes on a loan deal. The former Spurs midfielder becomes the second most valuable player in the Süper Lig.

Should the Lions bring both transfers across the line then they would manage to increase their squad value by 22%, which would see them leapfrog Fenerbahce (€86.3m) and also champions Istanbul Basaksehir (€89.1m) in the market value standings in Turkey (to the Süper Lig standings).
