Tajon Buchanan with a 26.3% market value increase - 3rd most valuable Canadian

Brugge have been one of the biggest surprises of the UEFA Champions League season. The Belgian club finished second in Group B ahead of Atlético Madrid and Bayer Leverkusen, just one point behind first-place Porto. As a result, several Brugge players have seen their market value increase in the latest Jupiler Pro League market value update, among them Canadian winger Tajon Buchanan.  

The 23-year-old has seen his market value increase by 26.3% from €9.5 million to €12m. "He was injured for the first part of the season and was only back available in October," Transfermarkt Area Manager Belgium Bart Tamsyn said. "He immediately gained a first-team spot, with the biggest consequence that the most valuable player of the Jupiler Pro League, Noa Lang, had to be happy with a place on the bench." 

Capturing playing time from Lang and his role for the Canadian men's national team were two good reasons to update Buchanan's value. To further increase his value, the Canadian will have to be more impactful in front of the goal. But Tamsyn believes it will only be a matter of time before Buchanan improves in that category as well. "Everybody sees the danger in his actions when he gets the ball," Tamsyn said.

Buchanan: Only two Canadians are more valuable

With the market value increasing to €12m, Buchanan has further cemented his status as the third most valuable Canadian player behind Alphonso Davies (Bayern) and Jonathan David (Lille). Among players in Belgium, Buchanan now comfortably ranks in the top 10. Whether he will remain long in the JPL is another question. "If he starts adding stats to his performance, his value will continue rising, and a top-5 competition will be his next destination," Tamsyn said. "We haven't seen the best Buchanan yet."
