Ben Davies joins Liverpool from Preston - Sepp van den Berg goes the other way
Liverpool will sign experienced center-back Ben Davies from Preston North End. ESPN andThe Athletic were two of several outlets that reported that the 25-year-old left-footed center-back joins the Reds on a deal worth in the region of €2.2 million. Davies would have been a free agent this summer and has previously been linked with a transfer to Scottish Premiership side Rangers.
Davies is expected to undergo his medical in Liverpool tomorrow. The Reds in turn will loan out Sepp van den Berg to Preston until the end of the season. Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp has been vocal about the need of having to sign another center-back before the winter January transfer window shuts. "I am not picky," Klopp said after his club's victory over Tottenham (3-1).
The Reds are currently without the injured Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, and Joel Matip. Matip had to be brought off with an injury on Thursday but the club is hopeful his injury will not be a long-term problem. Regardless, Davies might be just one of two signings. Liverpool have also been linked with Arsenal center-back Shkodran Mustafi. The German is a free agent this summer but Arsenal would like to have him off the books now.
