A 13-0 victory is the sort of result often seen during pre-season test games between professional and amateur sides. On the weekend, however, Ajax destroyed VVV-Venlo 13-0 in the biggest win in first division football among Europe's elite leagues. Never before did any club in Europe's top 10 divisions manage to score 13 goals in one match—it was also the biggest win in any of Europe's top 10 leagues. Furthermore, 19-year-old Lassina Traoré managed to score five goals.

Other than Ajax, only four other clubs managed to score 10 goals or more in a game: Benfica, PSV Eindhoven, FC Sochi, and Real Madrid. "It is bad about Dutch football because everyone talks about it," Bayer Leverkusen head coach and former Ajax bench boss Peter Bosz said. But the Eredivisie is not the only league that has seen big results like Ajax's victory on the weekend—the Bundesliga, LaLiga, and Premier League have seen lopsided results, the only league where it has not been the case is Italy's Serie A.

From 2000 to today The biggest wins in the Premier League Overview Since 2000, Bayern Munich are four times among the biggest winners in Bundesliga history. RB Leipzig, against Mainz, and Bayer Leverkusen, against Ulm, are also in the overall ranking. Hamburger SV are mentioned three times as the losing team—the North Germans got smashed by Bayern in 2013, 2015, and 2017.

Claudio Pizarro, who scored four goals in Bayern's 9-2 victory over HSV in 2013, said: "We played well. I was also in good form. We want even more success and have secured one trophy. But we want all three. We showed that today." Two months later, Bayern celebrated the first treble in history.

Their first game after the 2020 treble was another blowout. The Rekordmeister smashed Schalke 8-0 to start the 2020/21 season. In the overall European-wide ranking, that result is the 17th biggest win—Manchester City, against Watford, Barcelona, against UD Almería, and Chelsea, against Aston Villa, also managed 8-0 victories.

Southampton and Feyenoord Rotterdam are the only two clubs in the ranking that were both on the giving and receiving end of major defeats in this millennia. In 2014 the Saints defeated Sunderland 8-0 and one year ago were smashed by Leicester 9-0Jamie Vardy and Ayoze Pérez both scored a hattrick. Ten years ago, Feyenoord were destroyed 10-0 by PSV. Then in 2017, the Rotterdam-based club beat Go Ahead Eagles Deventer 8-0.
