Bundesliga) bibt es Part time Players, also Halbprofis. Cowdenbeath beispielsweise hat größtenteils Teilzeitprofis und mit David McGurn vom Aufstiegsaspiranten Raith Rovers ist einer der besten Keeper (wenn nicht der beste) der Liga Teilzeitprofi.

Second Division - Mid Season Review

Monday 3rd January 2011

We continue Des McKeown's review with a look at the clubs in the Second Division.

IRN-BRU SFL SECOND DIVISION
LIVINGSTON Position W D L GD Points
1 8 4 2 10 28
The pre-season favourites for the title started their assault on the Championship like a train before being derailed by Ayr United at the start of October. However, that proved to be only a blip and the spirit shown recently by Gary Bollan’s side to come back from 2-0 down at Alloa to snatch a point proves that they’re still very much capable of getting back-to-back promotions.

Livi’s home form has been particularly impressive – picking up 17 points from a possible 21.

BRECHIN CITY Position W D L GD Points
2 7 6 1 15 27
If the Glebe Park side’s record of only one defeat and 15 goals to the good in 14 matches can be sustained over the second half of the season, there’s no reason why they can’t finish top of the pile.

Once again, Rory McAllister is proving that he has so much to offer – 11 goals in 11 League games is phenomenal by anyone’s standards - and, if he’s still there at the end of the Transfer Window, that might be the difference between Brechin winning the League and finishing in the Play-Offs.

AYR UNITED Position W D L GD Points
3 7 2 4 1 23
If Brian Reid’s side are going to challenge for the title, they’re going to have to sort out their away form. On their travels, The Honest Men have won only seven points from 18 and conceded 17 goals – almost three in every match.

However, they’re very much in touch with the pacesetters and they could still come out on top if Mark Roberts continues to find the net regularly – 11 goals from 10 starts so far is quite a return.

ALLOA ATHLETIC Position W D L GD Points
4 6 5 5 0 23
The Wasps last seven games show exactly where Allan Maitland’s team’s strengths and weaknesses lie – 14 goals for and 15 against… statistics that can’t possibly support a realistic title challenge. If Alloa are to come out on top in this division, they must stop conceding as many goals - four clean sheets in 16 games isn’t the form of Champions.

However, if there’s one thing in their favour, it’s that their Manager has been over the course time and again and knows what it takes to get his side over the finishing line.

FORFAR ATHLETIC Position W D L GD Points
5 6 3 4 4 21
The Loons are very much still in the title race and, with games in hand, any business Dick Campbell does in the Transfer Window might just make the difference. If they are to win the League, they will need to perform better away from Station Park - seven points from 18 isn’t good enough to build a title assault on.

However, a Play-Off place is the least the club should be looking for and, after promotion last season, that would be a huge achievement.

AIRDRIE UNITED Position W D L GD Points
6 5 4 6 -3 19
Jimmy Boyle’s first season in charge has been interesting to say the least. A financial and organisational restructure of the squad has led to youth being given a chance and that has meant some inconsistency. Only once this season have The Diamonds won two games on the bounce and have lost by the odd goal in four of their six defeats.

More noticeably, their young team seem to perform better away from home - 13 of their 19 points and 17 of their 23 goals scored have all been on the road. If they can produce that form at the Excelsior Stadium, they’ll make it into the Play-Offs comfortably.

EAST FIFE Position W D L GD Points
7 4 4 6 6 16
Since John Robertson’s introduction as Manager, East Fife have had the form of CHAMPIONS - four games played, three wins, one draw, 15 goals for and four against. How’s that for making an impact.

However, Robertson will know that there’s still much hard work to be done if the Methil side are to force themselves into the Play-Offs, and that will start with maintaining the standards that they’ve set recently. Let’s not forget that prior to that, the same players went eight games without a win and they’ve still to win on the road.

The Manager’s contacts during the Transfer Window might be worth keeping an eye on, as he may attempt to improve the squad through loan signings.

PETERHEAD Position W D L GD Points
8 3 6 7 -8 15
Neale Cooper’s side have once again flattered to deceive and their inconsistency can be seen in their last two games - losing 5-0 to Brechin City before defeating Airdrie United 5-1 three days later.

Not once this season have the Blue Toon secured back-to-back League wins and that underlines why they are at the wrong end of the table. No victories away from Balmoor doesn’t exactly help either.

STENHOUSEMUIR Position W D L GD Points
9 3 3 8 -8 12
It’s clear to see where Stenny’s troubles lie - they don’t score enough goals away from home to win games. The new Manager, once he arrives, will be looking at why The Warriors have only scored once on their travels and picked up one point from a possible 21 as a result.

One victory in the last nine games is the kind of form that leads to a relegation dogfight; and that’s what Stenny are in.

DUMARTON Position W D L GD Points
10 3 1 9 -17 10
The Sons’ season so far has been a huge disappointment and new Manager, Alan Adamson, has a real fight on his hands to keep his side in the division.

Once again, it’s Dumbarton’s away form that is killing them - the worst in the IRN BRU SFL Championships. One point from 21 and a goal difference of -17 tells you all you need to know.

However, back-to-back home League wins in their most recent fixtures is something positive to build on and some activity in the Transfer Window might just give The Sons a chance of survival.
