To no great surprise, English football continues to dominate the sport when it comes to the most valuable players in the world. In no uncertain terms, the wealth and success of the Premier League is perfectly showcased by the fact that 49 of the top 100 most valuable players in the world according to Transfermarkt play in the English top-flight. And if that wasn’t impressive enough, the English contingent of the rankings come in at a combined market value of €1.09 billion - which is considerably higher than any other nation.

Indeed, while the nation’s most valuable player, Jude Bellingham, actually plays in Spain for Real Madrid, the combined value of the English players in the top 100 makes up no less than 15% of the total and comes ahead of France (€985m) and Brazil (€893m). Interestingly enough, fourth-placed Portugal have a remarkable market value of €635m, which is not only impressive for a country of around 10.3m but all the more so when we consider that they completely dwarf traditional footballing powerhouses Germany (€445m) and Argentina (€400m) with their representation in the top 100.

Similarly, former high-flyers in the international scene such as the Netherlands (10th with a total value of €205m) and Italy (11th with a total value of €185m) have been leapfrogged by the likes of Norway and Uruguay, who can lay claim to total values of €270m and €245m respectively due to the star players that they now possess. In the case of Norway they have two stars in the top 100 in the form of Erling Haaland and Martin Ødegaard, while Uruguay have Federico ValverdeDarwin Núñez and Manuel Ugarte flying the flag for their nation.

Premier League dominate club rankings - but Bayern Munich sit top

English football’s dominance of the top 100 is also clear for all to see when we break the rankings down by which clubs can lay claim to the most valuable players in the world. No less than nine Premier League clubs are featured in the listings, which is just under half of all the clubs. In total, 49 of the top 100 players are contracted to an English club. In second place is LaLiga, with no less than 17 players from Madrid, Barcelona and Real Sociedad. The Bundesliga has 11, Ligue 1 has 10 and Serie A has six.

When it comes to individual clubs, Bayern Munich rise above all others with no less than 10 representatives in the top 100 most valuable players in the world. That puts them narrowly ahead of Manchester City, Paris Saint-GermainBarcelona and Arsenal, who all have nine players each. Liverpool, despite their struggles in recent years, can lay claim to eight players on the list, which puts them above both Manchester United and Chelsea.
